Carilion Innovations is a department designed to catalyze that process by engaging its medical staff directly with our team to improve the current standard of medical technology and design future technologies that will improve medical procedures and education. For such innovation to occur daily responsibilities for this position include,

  • Document user requirements and potential product specifications
  • Design and build prototypes beginning in the ideation stage through to working prototypes
  • Work with VT mentors and Carilion clinician stakeholders to develop prototypes of solutions in line with excellent engineering and safety principles
  • CAD modeling: Create 3-D models from 2-D drawings.
  • Cad Modeling: Ability to build parts and assemblies for simulations
  • 3D printing: Generate and develop 3D models of leading designs.
  • Be able to work up to 15 hours a week on site
  • Engage in interdepartmental projects using the Sim Center as a prototyping hub for larger projects
  • Conduct data analysis and perform basic product (hardware/software) evaluation and redesign, engaging stakeholders and mentors throughout the process
  • Other duties as assigned What We Require: Requirements: To be successful in this position we are asking that you meet the following criteria.
    • Bachelor's degree (or 4th year undergraduate) in mechanical engineering
    • At least 3 years of experience in CAD (SolidWorks preferred)
    • Knowledge on hand tools and other rapid prototyping equipment
    • Excellent communication skills
    • Excellent time management and planning skills
    • Confident in Microsoft TEAMS
    • ECAD/PCB layout skills preferred
