Oversees the patient safety event management program by supervising the Patient Safety Specialists (PSS), Quality Improvement Facilitators (QIF) and other CAPS team members in the ongoing management, data analysis, root cause analyses, intensive analyses and trending of all patient safety events within the event reporting platform. - Provides appropriate support to all Carilion hospitals and ambulatory sites to achieve standardization of event management policies and processes, where needed. - The Director of Clinical Safety Systems and Quality develops, organizes, and leads the implementation and sustainability of system strategies to promote a culture of safety and high reliability across Carilion Clinic including serving as the subject-matter expert for the Root Cause Analysis and Action and Intensive Analysis and Action (RCA2/IA2) processes, the Patient Safety Organization (PSO), Patient Safety Evaluation System (PSES) and the event reporting platform. - Prepares and presents informative and actionable patient safety reports to appropriate committees to include presentations to leadership, and CAPS Board subcommittees. Works collaboratively with the CAPS team, Infection Control, Clinical Risk Management, Patient Advocacy, Medical Staff, nursing leadership, Health Analytics, Technology Services Group and clinical staff to integrate the 'Culture of Safety' throughout the organization. Serves as the immediate manager for CAPS patient safety staff (PSS team, QIF team, other CAPS resources as needed). - Directs all patient safety and event analysis activities for Carilion including trending of data to be used for performance improvement. - Possesses an in-depth understanding and demonstrates practical implementation of serious reportable event and sentinel event criteria to triage all patient safety events promptly. Experience: - 5 years of relevant healthcare experience. - -Progressive healthcare leadership experience required. - License/ Certification: - Healthcare licensure preferred. - RN preferred. - Healthcare Quality-related certification required within 12 months of hire. Other Minimum Qualifications: - Excellent written and verbal communication skills; strength and comfort in delivering crucial conversations, as needed. - Data analytics and utilization for performance improvement. - Demonstrated acumen for human resource allocation based on team expertise and to promote efficiency. - Expertise in managing competing priorities to achieve optimal outcomes for the department. - Ability to assess the impact and appropriately respond to patient safety events for the system. - Serve as the principle organizational liaison for quality and patient safety reporting in multiple forums, as needed. -Experience in communicating data-driven insights required.
