Job Description:
-Summary This position reports to the Vice President of
Environmental Health and Safety and General Manager and will be
providing customer service to the Richmond, Chesapeake and
Woodbridge locations. -The primary job responsibilities will be
safety program compliance with OSHA and General Contractors, and
Customer's requirements for the Raleigh office and commercial
departments. - A Safety Manager focuses on the implementation of
programs, which identify and reduce employee exposure to workplace
hazards. Provides direction to front line supervisors in
establishing and maintaining the safety culture that Baker Roofing
Company has in place. Aids operations management in achieving
safety goals and objectives as well as regulatory compliance. - As
appropriate, interacts with external agencies as the department
deems necessary. - The safety professional is a vital part of risk
management in the organization and has supportive duties such as
investigation and remediation from insurance claims. - Essential
Functions
- Assist VP of Risk Management and Claims Manager with workers
compensation issues:
- Ensure treatment for injured employees (at times this means
being at the clinic and or aiding with transportation)
- Ensure drug testing for employees involved in incidents
- Investigate incidents and help determine corrective actions
from root causes
- Coordinate with the GM and Human Resources Administrative
Assistant in support of company policies, including substance abuse
policies and new employee orientation procedures.
- Conduct initial drug screening
- Conduct new hire orientation (safety training and company
benefits overview)
- Visually inspect I-9 documents and complete paperwork -
- Ensure each employee receives safety equipment
- Conduct forklift, manlift, First Aid /CPR, and other applicable
training classes. -
- Ensure cards and certificates are created and records entered
into Industry Safe for tracking. -
- Manage a spreadsheet to track branch-level certifications and
expiration dates. Report expirations to GM and Operations
Manager.
- Conducts and documents site specific training
- Formal training (off site)
- Informal training (on site)
- Safety Meeting (participate in Daily safety huddles whenever
possible)
- Any additional training as mandated by work activity, clients
and or the law (including required annual refresher training for
field staff).
- Inspect job sites on a regular basis.
- Inspection Report written up and sent to appropriate
individuals within 24 business hours. Inspections are sent to
appropriate distribution groups.
- Develop, Aid in, and Document Corrective action taken.
- Identify trends and work with VP of EHS on development
strategies.
- Assists and /or conducts investigation, including
- Field incidents and injuries GL claims (including all
leaks)
- Customers Complaints
- As directed by the GM
- Support all field activities as required.

Other duties as assigned Requirements
- Intermediate Knowledge of OSHA recordkeeping and safety
regulations (30 hour card holder).
- Basic knowledge of workers compensation processes,
procedures.
- Intermediate computer skills, proficient in Microsoft Word ,
Excel and Outlook
- Proficient in English with Intermediate written, verbal and
organizational skills and strong attention to detail. -
- Spanish is a plus
- Ability to multi-task
- Strong analytical skills
- Ability to work independently and also in a team
environment
- Clean Driving Record
- Advanced Knowledge of Fall Protection Physical Demands
Requires sitting or standing up for
long periods of time Requires climbing ladders, scaffolds, or
stairs to access roofs for inspections Requires using hands to
handle, control, or feel objects, tools or controls Requires
repetitive movement, bending or twisting, kneeling, crouching,
stooping or crawling Physical ability to stand and walk, lift and
