Job Summary
Carilion Clinic is recruiting for an experienced, neurosurgery
Physician Assistant to join a growing team of 8 Neurosurgeons, 7
residents, and 10 ACP's. Carilion Clinic Neurosurgery is a
clinic-based, academic program with remarkable opportunities in
teaching, research, and clinical neurosurgery. Based in the Level 1
Trauma Center Carilion, Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke
Virginia, the program provides neurosurgical coverage to over 1
million people in a large, rural, multi-state area. Clinical
pathology is exceptionally broad, and our neurosurgeons perform
procedures of all levels of complexity in all subspecialty domains.
We run a highly successful ACGME accredited resident training
program. Education and research activities and opportunities abound
through our intimate relationships with the Virginia Tech Carilion
School of Medicine, the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute
(FBRI), the Virginia Tech School of Neuroscience (VTSoN), and
Virginia Tech proper. FBRI recently underwent a 90-million-dollar
expansion as a part of a larger Virginia Tech-Carilion Clinic
Health Sciences and Technology initiative. We are actively involved
in the education of medical students from two local medical
schools, residents from multiple Carilion Clinic-Virginia Tech
Carilion (CC-VTC) training programs, allied health science students
from Radford University Carilion, and Virginia Tech neuroscience
undergraduate and graduate students. The CC-VTC system and the
neurosurgery program stand on the brink of unprecedented expansion
and opportunity through the burgeoning relationship with Virginia
Tech. We are looking for a dynamic, growth-focused Nurse
Practitioner of excellent clinical experience. There are few
positions in the country that can boast such wonderful potential.
Monday - Friday; 0800-1700; periodic call weekend daytime.
The Medical Specialty Physician Assistant has advanced knowledge
and skills qualify her/him to function as a primary health care
provider. She/he serves as a member of a collaborative health care
team. This collaborative role includes responsibility for
determining the patient's health and medical status by taking a
health history; performing physical exams; initiating screening and
diagnostic procedures; providing health maintenance services; and
management of pregnancy, minor trauma, acute illnesses, and stable
chronic illness. Consults with physician, as appropriate, keeping
the physician informed of needs and problems related to patient
care.
Minimum Qualifications
Education: Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant Program
required.
Experience: Clinical experience appropriate to specific practice/
department preferred
Licensure/Certification: Current Physician Assistants license (PA)
required. DEA licensure required. AHA BLS-HCP certification
required. Advanced life support is preferred and is required for
those who may use a defibrillator in their practice.
Other: Meets credentialing requirements. Qualifies for malpractice
insurance and is accepted by Carilion Clinic's malpractice
insurance carrier. Ability to work collaboratively with physicians
and other health care providers. Maintains open and supportive
communications between all department members and other employees,
patients and their family members. Commitment to continued
professional development.
