Job Description:
Carilion Clinic and Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine
(VTCSOM) are searching for a board-eligible or board-certified
reconstructive urologist to join our growing Section of Urology.
The Section of Urology is expanding the academic and clinical
urological missions in Southwest Virginia with the stated goal of
evolving into an independent department and establishing a urology
residency training program. In keeping with this goal, completion
of a Society of Genitourinary Reconstructive Surgeons (GURS)
fellowship is preferred but not required. The Carilion Clinic adult
and pediatric urology programs were both founded in 2023. The
Section of Urology at Carilion is currently comprised of three
fellowship-trained urologists in oncology, endourology, and
pediatrics, three general urologists, and a full complement of
advanced care practitioners. The growth of the Section comes during
a period of rapid growth for Carilion and VTCSOM. In October 2024,
Carilion broke ground on the Taubman Cancer Center, a six-story,
257,000 square-foot building constructed following a $100 million
capital campaign aimed at consolidating and transforming cancer
care in the region. In May 2005, the Virginia Division of
Certificate of Public Need (DCOPN) approved Carilion’s application
to establish a kidney transplant program, with the first surgeries
targeted for 2026. This month, Carilion completed the new Crystal
Springs Tower, a 12-story, 500,000 square-foot facility that
doubles the capacity of the existing Emergency Department and will
house Carilion’s Cardiovascular Institute. Capping this momentum,
within the next four years, leadership at VTCSOM aims to double
medical school enrollment with construction of a new, 100,000
square-foot building adjacent to the Carilion Medical Center (CMC)
campus. Carilion Clinic is a physician-led, community-based,
integrated academic health system associated with VTCSOM.
Collectively, we are the largest not-for-profit integrated health
system in Virginia. We serve one million people in Southwest
Virginia and surrounding states, with seven hospitals, 220
physician practice locations, and 25 GME programs. This position is
based primarily at CMC in Roanoke, VA, a 700 bed academic/tertiary
referral center with Level I trauma center. VTCSOM is a fully
accredited, four-year allopathic medical school founded in 2010
from a public-private partnership between Virginia Tech and
Carilion Clinic. Carilion Children’s Hospital is an extension of
the Carilion Clinic health system. It is the region’s only
pediatric Level I trauma center, pediatric emergency department
with dedicated pediatric trauma bay, PICU, and Level IIIB NICU
(highest in the region). Physicians in the health system are
employed through Carilion Clinic with academic appointments at
VTCSOM. Carilion Clinic offers a competitive salary with incentives
tied to productivity and quality criteria as well as a
comprehensive benefits package including paid malpractice and tail
insurance, healthcare insurance, and retirement benefits, including
a fully funded pension plan. The Roanoke Valley is a metro area of
300,000 people and has consistently been rated among the “best
places to live” in the nation and features exceptional schools, low
cost of living, inexpensive real estate, and abundant outdoor
activities in an exceptional setting along the Blue Ridge Parkway,
Appalachian Trail, Smith Mountain Lake, and surrounding areas.
Located at the southern tip of Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley, easy
interstate access allows for a few hours driving distance to the
Atlantic Ocean beaches and major metropolitan areas. Roanoke is
home to some of the “Best” ranked Outdoor Activities in the Blue
Ridge Mountains. The Carilion Clinic medical campus in Roanoke and
VTCSOM are approximately 45 minutes from the main university campus
of Virginia Tech in Blacksburg." To learn more about Carilion
