Draft Department: Operations Summary:The Team Leader plays a key
role within the organization tasked with driving manufacturing
excellence at the shop floor level. This will be achieved by
coaching, guiding, and developing hourly associates to utilize the
Hollister Production System (HPS) to drive improved results in the
areas of Safety, Quality, Service and Cost objectives compatible
with Hollister's Mission and Vision. This role is additionally
responsible for administering policies and corrective actions,
supporting new product commercialization (NPC) and advocating team
growth within a team-based environment.Responsibilities:Employee
Relations
- Demonstrate availability and leadership through a continual
presence on the manufacturing floor.
- Provide leadership by coaching and enabling associates to be
successful in meeting or exceeding team goals in quality, service,
cost and safety in an environment of continuous improvement.
- Conduct employee evaluations, provide constructive feedback for
performance improvements and conflict resolution.
- Support, model, and promote Hollister Cultural Beliefs and
plant culture. Interpret and apply company policies in a consistent
manner.
- Ensure associates progress through the company's skill
development and all training is complete/recorded in the Learning
Management System (LMS).
- Utilize Training Within Industry (TWI) practices and Leader
Standard Work (LSW) to ensure associates are effectively following
all standard work established via HPS elements.
- Achieve appropriate levels for each HPS element on the
Champions Model to effectively coach, mentor, and teach other
associates in said elements.Engagement
- Monitor and provide developmental coaching for leadership roles
within the team.
- Monitor metrics that impact Team performance and address
shortfalls in achieving goals and targets, as it relates to
associate performance.
- Recognize and reward employees for achievements through use of
the Making a Difference program.
- Facilitate team meetings and ensure shift hand-off meetings
occur to relay crucial information across teams and shifts.
- Train and develop key associates to become HPS Champions.
- Ensure active participation of all team members at the machine
handoff meetings (Tier 0) and Tier 1 meetings; specifically, around
problem solving (3Cs, issues/actions) and improvement idea
cards.Production Oversight
- Provide a safe work environment. Monitor safety conditions
within the team, including incident reports, near misses and
conduct accident investigations with root cause analysis.
- Respond to and facilitate efforts to address quality issues,
including corrective and preventative actions within their direct
area of responsibility.
- Responsible for effective, solution-based Tier 1 meetings that
resolve issues affecting team performance. Ensure issues are
escalated to the Tier 2 meeting if additional support is
needed.
- Provide stakeholder feedback for new product production rates
based on equipment performance and continuous improvement.
- Monitor hourly/daily/weekly performance (i.e., Tier 0 boards,
efficiency and scrap reports, Tier 1 charts, and triggers for
action, etc.); address issues as needed.
- Ensure Material Coordinator creates an effective schedule that
meets customer priorities; analyze machine capacity and staffing
needs to meet demands.Staffing and Resource Planning
- Manage staffing levels to ensure plans are executed, maintain
cross-training matrices.
- Assist Value Stream Management in identifying skills needed for
each team (leadership, technical, experience, etc.)
- Interview and select candidates for team positions.Project
Management
- Lead and/or support team projects, champion Kaizen events, and
implement cost saving initiatives within their direct area of
responsibility.
- Collaborate with Engineering and Planning functions to support
the successful integration of New Product Commercialization
projects, and equipment launches.Essential Functions of the Role**:
- Prolonged periods of sitting and standing
- Frequent movement over large manufacturing floor area
- Public speaking requirements (team based)
- Significant reading requirements
- Constant utilization of listening skills, both person to person
and over the phone
- Occasional travel requirements with overnight stay, some
international travel possibleWork Experience Requirements:
- Number of Overall Years Necessary: 2-5
- Three (3) years of working experience in a formal or informal
leadership position (shift leader, group leader, management
resource, etc.) is preferred.Education Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree preferred.Specialized Skills/Technical
Knowledge:
- Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite
(Word, PowerPoint, and Excel)
- Excellent communication skills (oral and written)
- Strong interpersonal communication skills and the ability to
build and maintain trust in a team environment.
- Critical Thinking and problem-solving techniques (5-Y, etc.)
preferred.
- Lean Production System/Operational Excellence (5S, LSW, VPM,
etc.) preferred.
- Familiarity with manufacturing ERP systems and shop floor data
acquisition preferred.
- Medical Device or other FDA related manufacturing experience
