Duties Under the direction and guidance of the Office of Law
Enforcement Services Unit Chief and assigned Assistant Chief, the
Special Agent is responsible for conducting thorough investigations
of criminal violations against or within the Department of
Corrections by employees, inmates, contractors, volunteers,
visitors and others, and administrative investigations of
violations of Standards of Conduct, and other investigations or
inquiries of serious matters involving the Department. Ensures that
all assignments meet accepted professional standards, are timely
and curate. Responsible to assist development and implementation of
prevention activities to reduce vulnerability of the Department to
criminal activity. Must be located in one of the following counties
and residence should be within 90 minutes drive time to designated
work location. Counties include Minimum Qualifications Experience
in law enforcement, investigations, or security. Current active
Virginia Law Enforcement certifications by the Department of
Criminal Justice Services. Working knowledge and experience with
the method and techniques meeting legal and accepted professional
standards conducting complex criminal and administrative
investigations. Working knowledge of applicable federal and state
statues and administrative policies. Knowledge of procedures used
to identify, prepare, examine, analyze and preserve evidence for
criminal cases or administrative hearings. Working knowledge of
court procedures and rules of evidence. Ability to communicate
effectively and established and maintain effective relationships
with Department managers and personnel, law enforcement agencies,
prosecutors, citizens and the general public. Additional
Considerations Advanced training and certifications for
investigative interviews or evidence collection. DCJS certified
