How You'll Help Transform Healthcare: Join three CNMs and five
physicians in a very supportive and team-oriented practice in the
lovely New River Valley of Southwest Virginia. We are looking for a
third CNM to join our collaborative group, seeing women in our two
New River Valley offices, and attending births at the Carilion New
River Valley Medical Center. Within this full-scope practice, we
provide care to women from diverse social and educational
backgrounds. A certain percentage of our clients select our
practice for the unique care we provide, including care for women
choosing VBAC. We are the first group to embrace full-scope
hospital-based midwifery care within a 100 mile radius! Primary
call would be 1:4. We offer post-primary call day off as well as
competitive salary and CME allowance.Life in the New River Valley

four-season climate. We are looking for a CNM with excellent
communication skills, passion for midwifery, and a desire to work
as part of a cohesive midwife and physician team. Ideally, the
candidate would feel comfortable providing support for natural
birth and co-managing high-risk pregnancies and labors. Our team

families we care for. Midwifery experience is preferred. - Hours
are 8a-5p for office sessions with 24 hour call. Provides medical
care and treatment to obstetrical patients in collaboration with
the Obstetrician, delivers babies, and instructs patients in
prenatal and postnatal health practices: Participates in initial
examination of obstetrical patient, and is assigned responsibility
for care, treatment, and delivery of patient. Provides GYN care.

- Examines patient during pregnancy, utilizing physical findings,
laboratory test results, and patient's statements to evaluate
condition and ensure that patient's progress is normal.
- Discusses case with physician to assure observation of
specified practices.
- Instructs patient in diet, prenatal health practices, and
educates on birth options.
- Stays with patient during labor to reassure patient and to
administer medication.
- Delivers infant and performs postpartum examinations and
treatments to ensure that patient and infant are responding
normally.
- When deviations from standard are encountered during pregnancy
or delivery, administers stipulated emergency measures, and
arranges for immediate contact of -physician. -
- Visits patient during postpartum period in hospital and at home
to instruct patient in care of self and infant, including
breastfeeding education.
- Maintains records of cases for inclusion in establishment
file.
- Conducts classes for groups of patients and families to provide
information concerning pregnancy, childbirth, and family
orientation.
- May direct work and activities of others, including instructing
in midwifery in establishment providing such training. What We
Require: Education: Graduate of an Accredited School of Nursing and
Nurse Practitioner Program, including preceptorship required.
Experience: One to three years experience required with midwifery
preferred. Licensure/Certifications/Registration: Current state
Licensed Nurse Practitioner (LNP), DEA license and Registered Nurse
(RN) licensure required. - AHA BLS-HCP certification required. Must
have valid Virginia Drivers license. Must have collaborative
agreement on file between the physician and midwife to meet State
Board regulatory requirement. Other Minimum Qualifications: -Must
own/operate reliable form of transportation. Must have clear
criminal background check. Eligible for prescriptive authority in
accordance with State regulations and as authorized by the Virginia
Boards of Nursing and Medicine. Capable of meeting credentialing or
job function requirements as needed based on the requirements of
the practice and of managed care payors and insurers. Qualifies for
malpractice insurance and is accepted by Carilion Clinic's
malpractice insurance carrier. -Able to work collaboratively with
physicians and other health care providers. Demonstrates good
written and oral communication skills. Computer literacy required
for automated computer systems, includingelectronic medical
