Job Description:
OverviewThe Quality Manager will lead and support the activities
of the Vice President of Operations Tanks in the development and
improvement of MEC Quality Management system; which at a minimum
will meet the requirements of ISO9001. - Responsibilities will be
to plan, develop implement, train in and assess the effectiveness
of MECs quality systems to improve internal and outgoing product
quality to achieve higher levels of customer satisfaction. - This
position will be required to interact with all functional areas in
the company to assure seamless processes are in place that are
effective and efficient to meet the quality standards and
expectations set by the customer. - This position will develop
quality metrics to access and assure processes are not only in
compliance but also functioning as planned. - Takes an active role
in identifying quality issues, non-conformances and leads
corrective action of those issues insuring that quality meets or
exceeds customer requirements. - Responsible for the audit function
and leads efforts to achieve compliance with any new quality
standards that new and existing customers requires. -Leads, and
directs Quality Technicians and Quality
Engineers.ResponsibilitiesESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assesses, designs, develops, implements and evaluates Quality
Management Systems to conform to ISO9001 and all internal quality
standards
- In-depth knowledge of APQP - and associated sub-processes
- Analyzes, evaluates and presents information concerning factors
such as production capabilities, manufacturing problems and design
& development of new products for consideration by other members of
the MEC team.
- Plans, defines, monitors and improves quality goals and
objectives. - Monitors product quality through audits, returns,
inspection, cost of poor quality reports and customer score
cards.
- Suggests and debates alternative methods and procedures in
solving problems and meeting changing market expectations and
opportunities.
- Develops initial and subsequent modifications of product
assurance program to delineate areas of responsibility, personnel
requirements and operational procedures within department.
- Assists in the development of short term and long term quality
goals and objectives of the MEC businesses.
- Performs and coordinate the root cause failure analysis related
to customer product quality issues and effectively communicates
resolution to customers and internal stakeholders.
- Reviews technical problems and procedures and recommends
solutions to problems or changes in procedures.
- Visits and confers with representatives of material and
component vendors to obtain information related to supply chain
quality, capacity of vendor to meet orders and vendor quality
standards.
- Review technical publications, articles and abstracts to stay
abreast of technical developments in industry.
- Develops and implements methods and procedures for disposition
of discrepant material and devises methods to assess cost and
responsibility.
- Interprets engineering drawings, schematic diagrams, or
formulas and confers with management or engineering staff to
determine quality and reliability standards in new product
developments, prototypes and commercialized product.
- Oversees the test data recording process, applying statistical
quality control procedures.
- Assists in supplier reviews, audits and qualifications
- Participate in continuous improvement/lean initiatives
- Assist in new product development/process development and
launch when required
- Recommends modifications of existing quality or production
standards to achieve optimum quality within limits of current
technology.
- Prepares and manages an operating expense budget for the
Quality Assurance Department.
- Recommends manpower and staffing needs. - Participates in
interviewing and hiring of department employees. Makes
recommendations to the VP of Operations Tanks and Human Resources
Manager.
- Responsible for department orientation of new employees,
assessment of employees qualifications and compliance with
associated documentation.
- Ensures that employees participate in the companys performance
management and merit review process.
- Assures communication and compliance regarding QSP, Work
Instructions, and Safety and Health Manuals.
- Other duties may be assigned. -QualificationsTo perform the job

EXPERIENCE:Bachelors degree in Quality Engineering, Engineering
(any) and a minimum of 7-10 years in Quality Assurance in a
manufacturing company related to contract manufacturing, metal
fabrication, welding, assembly and/or finish paint. - -CQE,
experience in quality management systems and processes. -
-Experience with quality improvement tools (Lean Six Sigma,
Statistical Process Control, Process Failure Mode and Effects
Analysis), project management, facilitation skills and problem
solving, effective verbal and written communication skills, Quality
Team leader experience working within a matrixed organization.
-LANGUAGE SKILLS:Ability to understand GD&T or other technical
design drawings, read, analyzes, and interprets general business
periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or
governmental regulations. - Must possess the ability to write
reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. - Must
exhibit the ability to effectively present information and respond
to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the
general public. -MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:Ability to calculate figures
and amounts. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent, along
with the ability to develop and interpret various types of graphs.
-TECHNICAL SKILLS:Ability to understand technical mathematical
concepts such as product capability (Cpk), process capability (Ppk)
calculations of Parts Per Million defects (PPM) calculating and
determining control limits, working with data analysis tools such
as histograms, run charts, pareto diagrams, frequency distribution
calculations, and other quality concepts. - Must be able to
functionally utilize tools that perform these functions such as
Mini-Tab or Excel SPC or other similar programs, as well as
understand and share the information with customers, suppliers and
associates. -REASONING ABILITY:Ability to define problems collects
data, establish facts, as well as draw valid conclusions. -PHYSICAL
